The 21st Century After School Program

The Brayton After School Program is in its 10th year and ever growing! Monday through Friday over 100 students transition from the day program to after school. After school is comprised of two sessions with a total of 32 weeks of programming offered to our Kindergarten through 7th grade students. All students receive a healthy snack prior to the start of programs. Scholarships are offered in after school to families and students with specific needs. When a fee is required the office of 21st Century works with families very closely to make it possible for all students to attend. Daily transportation via school busses is available to families who need the service.
The style of learning promoted by the 21st Century is one that connects math, science and language art programs to real life, with inquiry based learning activities. Our philosophy is that if we make the learning real, students will become experts in life as they go out into the community as young adults. In addition to academic based programs, after school offers performing & visual arts such as our district wide Elementary Drama Team. We also partner with Kidspace at MoCA for wonderful art activities. YMCA swim keeps our students fit. MCLA offers a writing program in which the students in 5th through 7th get a taste of the college experience.
21st Century hires excellent staff and provides support to all staff through the purchase of exceptional instructional materials and plans a number of mandatory professional development sessions. Our staff is the best that it can be with certified teachers, enrichment leaders and trained and experienced assistants, many of whom have been a part of after school since its beginning in 2001.
Another component of 21st Century is the creation of a seamless day for every student through consistent communication with students’ teachers and out reach to families. We want every student to receive what is needed academically, socially & emotionally. As your coordinator, it is key that one carefully works toward planning with teachers & families the appropriate menu of programs to promote optimum success in after school hours.
Our motto at Brayton After School is “The Best That We Can Be”. 21st Century After School strives to “raise the bar” each year. Families can be assured that in enrolling their child in after school from kindergarten level through 7th grade that students will gain new skills as well as enhance skills taught in the day program.
